Be Like Jesus?
Matthew 14:13-21
Matthew 14:17
We have nothing to offer here but five loaves and two fish.
The T-shirt simply said, “Be Like Jesus.” It almost goes without saying. We long to “be like Jesus.” Isn’t that the thought, the hope or the goal of every Christian? Far be it from me, as a pastor, to say differently. However, this text (the feeding of the 5000) forces us to think about what this really means and how it would ever be possible. With a desperate and hungry crowd before Jesus and the disciples, Jesus tells his followers, “Give them something to eat.” It is an impossible request. They immediately respond, “We have nothing here but 5 loaves and 2 fish.” Up against Jesus, and what he is about to do, they are clearly NOT like Jesus. Isn’t that the case also for us? The difference between who Jesus is and who we are leaves such a wide gulf that one has to ask, “What would it even mean to ‘be like Jesus?’” We are so NOT like Jesus.
Sunday’s text will force some of these questions about who Jesus is and who we are. But two things are clear. Whoever we are must be seen in like of who Jesus is. And with this, when it comes to faith, even a “five loaves and two fish” kind of faith is a powerful force.
Come on Sunday to explore together how this works and what it means for your life in Christ!
In Christ,
Pastor Randy

You're all clear, kid. Let's blow this thing and go home! I want to come with you to Alderaan. There's nothing for me here now. I want to learn the ways of the Force and be a Jedi, like my father before me. As you wish. The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers. I need your help, Luke. She needs your help. I'm getting too old for this sort of thing. I find your lack of faith disturbing.
